Matebooks is built local-first on purpose: the less we hold, the less there is to protect, and the less you have to trust us with. This policy sets out exactly what that means in practice.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information the operator of Matebooks ("Matebooks", "we", "us") collects, how it is used, and how it is protected. It covers two things: the Matebooks desktop application (the "Software"), and this website. It does not cover any Third-Party Service you choose to connect to the Software — those are covered by that provider's own privacy policy, linked in Section 5.
Content you enter. Client names, emails, phone numbers, and addresses; invoice, quote, and receipt details; expense records; your business details, logo, and bank details; and any notes you add. All of this is written to a database file stored locally on your computer, in a folder you choose (by default, inside your Windows user profile). It is never transmitted to us, uploaded anywhere, or visible to us in any form.
Credentials you connect. If you connect Stripe, Gmail, or Outlook, the resulting access key or token is encrypted using your operating system's own encryption (Windows' built-in credential protection) before being saved to your local database. It stays on your device and is only ever used to talk directly to that provider on your behalf.
Nothing else. The Software does not collect your IP address, device identifiers, location, usage statistics, or any diagnostic data. There is no "phone home" behaviour of any kind.
This only happens for a feature you have actively turned on, and only for the specific action you take:
In every case, the connection is made directly between your computer and that provider using your own account — Matebooks is not a party to that exchange and does not retain a copy of what was sent.

This website does not use tracking or advertising cookies, and does not run any analytics script. The one piece of external content it loads is a font file from Google Fonts, which — like any font hosted this way — is requested directly from Google's servers when the page loads, and is subject to Google's own privacy policy above.
If you submit your email address through the notify-me form on this site, we use it solely to let you know when Matebooks becomes available, and for nothing else. We do not share it with anyone. You can ask us to delete it at any time (Section 10).
When you store a client's name, email, phone number, or address in the Software, you are the one collecting and holding that personal information — on your own device, under your own control. Matebooks never receives it. You are responsible for complying with any privacy law that applies to your business in respect of that information, including the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) if it applies to you.
Your Content lives in a database file on your own device. Sensitive fields — your Stripe key, email tokens, and bank details — are encrypted using your operating system's own encryption before being written to disk, so they are not stored as plain text. Because everything is local, the overall security of your Content also depends on the security of your own device — keeping your computer, Windows account, and any backups you make reasonably secure is your responsibility.
Your Content stays on your device for as long as you keep it there. Uninstalling the Software removes the application itself, but does not automatically delete your database or your Content — those remain on your device until you delete them yourself. Any backup file you export is entirely under your own control and retention.
Because your Content is stored locally, you already have full, direct control over it at all times: you can view, edit, export, back up, or permanently delete it from within the Software whenever you like — nothing requires our involvement. For the one thing we do hold (an email address you gave us through the notify-me form), you can ask us to tell you what we hold, correct it, or delete it at any time by contacting us using the details in Section 12.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if a future version of the Software changes what it connects to. We will update the date below when we do. Continuing to use the Software or this website after a change means you accept the updated policy.
